“Glitter and Be Gay” – Candide

Music: Leonard Bernstein   Lyrics: Richard Wilbur

Could there be a more fitting number for the day the first Gay Pride March was held in 1970?  In the comic aria, Cunegonde adorns herself with lavish jewelry while reflecting upon her honor.  The song requires a soprano skilled in coloratura as it covers a wide range of ups and downs similar to the titular hero’s journeys in this operetta based on the novella by Voltaire.
