“Seven and a Half Cents” – The Pajama Game
Music and Lyrics: Richard Adler & Jerry Ross
On this day in 2003, Broadway musicians were forced to strike when producers wanted to reduce the minimum orchestra size requirements. Though it was not money they were after like the unhappy workers in this musical, it was still very important for the musicians’ union. When the laborers at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory are finally given a deserved raise, they rejoice in this number just like all theatre fans rejoiced that an agreement was finally made which satisfied the musicians after four days on strike.
