“Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” – Zanna, Don’t!

Music: Tim Acito   Lyrics: Tim Acito & Alexander Dinelaris

The discriminatory “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy was put in place on this day in 1994, banning homosexuals from openly serving in the U.S. military.  Before the policy was repealed, this musical comedy introduced us to a world where being gay was normal and being straight was taboo.  This number expresses the longing so many must have felt as they fought to hide their sexuality, though it is sung by two high school students merely acting in a play about forbidden love.  Of course, things get complicated when the young thespians actually fall for each other.
