“When Children Rule the World” – Whistle Down the Wind

Music: Andrew Lloyd Webber   Lyrics: Jim Steinman

This uplifting song about the hope of a next generation certainly has a ring of triumph to it.  With such universal appeal, a Japanese version of the song was sung at the opening of the Winter Olympics in Nagano on this day in 1998.  If you pay attention to the lyrics, the tune concerns religious children who conspire to hide a man whom they believe to be their savior.  It turns out the man is an escaped convict, but the stirring voices of the chorus of children almost make you forget how creepy it all is.
