“Odeon” – Bright Lights, Big City
Music and Lyrics: Paul Scott Goodman
After the founders of nightclub Studio 54 were arrested for tax evasion, the famous club closed with a wild, blowout party on this day in 1980. A lurid reputation soon lured revelers back, and Studio 54 reopened the following year. Today, Studio 54 operates as a Broadway theater, but if you want an idea of what it was like carousing at the notorious discotheque, this lascivious song with an addictive beat is a rather precise dramatization of the New York party scene during the 1970’s and 80’s.
