“Stop the Press” – Gutenberg! The Musical!

Music and Lyrics: Scott Brown & Anthony King

While this song and the musical it stems from are both comical, this day is known for a couple of events, one of which tragically stopped the presses and gave it the nickname, “The day the music died.”  First, Johannes Gutenberg, inventor of the printing press and subject of this musical, died on this day in 1468.  Second, it was also on this day in 1959 that rock and roll legends Buddy Holly, J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson, and Ritchie Valens died in a plane crash.  Fortunately for us, music can never die, and their tuneful contributions will always be preserved for future generations to enjoy.  Much of their music is actually contained in the bio musical Buddy, in which all three of the aforementioned musicians appear as characters.
