“Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries” – Various
Music: Ray Henderson Lyrics: Lew Brown
This jaunty little tune was a hit when it was introduced in a Broadway revue in the 1930s, and it has remained a standard ever since covered by the likes of Judy Garland and Doris Day. The song was also added to a revival of Good News (a musical by the song’s composers), used in the musical Big Deal, and opened the first act of the revue Fosse, which took home the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1999. Its message: You can’t take anything with you in the end, so don’t take life too serious—just live and laugh at it all.
