“Not a Day Goes By” – Merrily We Roll Along
Music and Lyrics: Stephen Sondheim
A man contemplates the last twenty years of his life and the choices he’s made in this musical told in reverse chronological order based on the play by George S Kaufman and Moss Hart. This song which captures the aching feeling of lost love that lingers day after day is in honor and remembrance of the events of 9/11. While it may seem inappropriate given the show’s title, the heartbreaking number makes a point about all tragedy in that we never really get over it.

I haven’t listened to Merrily We Roll Along yet even though I keep meaning to. I really need to get around to it.

You definitely should. It is one of Sondheim’s underrated shows. Check and see if there’s a copy at your local library. If so, put a hold request on it, and when it comes in, that will be your reminder to give it a whirl.

That’s smart! I just moved to a very big theater area, so I bet I’ll be able to find it!
